Stakeholder Engagement
Continental is committed to responsible mineral development. The company initiated a community engagement program in 2005 that enables ongoing dialogue with local villagers and local and regional authorities about the project and development activities. This has facilitated the understanding of local interests and socioeconomic priorities so that the project proceeds in a manner that will benefit local communities and the region.

Since 2005, the Community Relations team has undertaken numerous formal and informal meetings and activities in the local villages, and with county and regional government officials. All communications are conducted in both Tibetan and Mandarin and are sensitive to the varying capacity of audiences. In addition to discussions about project plans and activities, information about the mine development process has been a key component of the consultation.

Issues raised during consultation have been taken into consideration in project activities, including the environmental and social impact assessment, project design and planning. Not surprisingly, many issues raised relate to interest in employment and other economic opportunities, and potential environmental effects.

Continental has discussed mitigation options with the local communities and the Community Relations team continues to work closely with the communities and key stakeholders so that solutions are developed in a collaborative manner. Overall, the feedback on the project from members of the local communities has been positive.
